It is that time again! The garden is starting to kick out the good stuff! I did get everything planted a little earlier this year, and I'm noticing the difference. As of yesterday, I froze 23 meals of beans and 3 of peas. I am almost to what I did last year on those two vegetables, and there is a lot more coming! I think the good rains we had in May and early June really made a difference. Either way, the kids have been really good about helping me. Five of us picking sure goes faster than one. And snipping and cleaning was a breeze yesterday with us all in the kitchen! This is just the beginning. The potatoes are dying off and will probably be ready next week and the tomatoes are stronger and taller than ever before and oh my, the squash and zuchinni have taken over the whole second garden!
I don't even want to say the words, "back to school", but I have to be thinking that way for Lauren. She leaves 30 days from today and is moving into her own apartment with two other girls. We have made lists and been trying to get all her stuff together. I found a cute little vanity with a mirror on freecycle that we are repainting and I bought a coffee table and two end tables on Craigslist for $35. It was oak, and it seems like everyone is selling their oak furniture. She wasn't quite happy with it either, so Dan sanded it all the way down and I restained it yesterday and put the polyurethane on it last night. It looks great and matches her large entertainment center I also bought on Craigslist for $10! We happen to have the same one in the basement and I think it is in better shape than ours! I am still looking for a double bed and dresser. Anyone know of a set they are looking to sell?
Sports activities are still in full swing. All five are running, Andrew and Natalie still swimming. Championships are Saturday, then that will be over. The boys played in the Russia Baseball tourney last weekend, but that is also coming to a close as just one more tourney and baseball is over too! Natalie was in Findlay for Basketball camp this last weekend. 10 games in 2 1/2 days! Wow! I took the girls up on Friday and then we all went up Sunday to watch her play in the camp tournament. They went 7-1 and were seeded third. They ended up runners-up, losing again to Findlay, their first loss. I was concerned about her hip and knee, but she did well, with just a little soreness at the end of each day. After all, it is CC season. I am truly praying for an injury-free season for all five children. We have the Angel 5K run this Sunday and Jenna will be home to run in that too! That means about 6 weeks until the first CC race. Wow, where does time go?
I have a large job today. Resealing the patio. Dan pressure washed it last night, and Dad gave me the 4 inch paintbrush he used. Yep, that means me on my hands and knees painting on sealer for 3-4 hours. I could roll it on with a handle and paint roller, but I have been told it needs to be a thin coat, and am concerned, so we will take it the hard way and make sure it goes on the way I want! There is no sun today, and hopefully no rain, and it isn't going to be too hot, and no wind, so I have perfect conditions. I can't wait for it to look like new again!
Ok, time to motivate!
