Since our house don't sit exactly facing west, (more a little Northwest), in the winter months, we don't see the sunset unless we go to the window and look way left. It was real important for us to have our backyard face west so we can enjoy the evenings and beautiful sunsets. After living "intown" for all our lives, we now appreciate such a simple thing. Well, it is that time. The sun now sets right outside our family room window from now until September or so. It is beautiful. We never realized what we were missing!
There are trade-offs, though. We have dark cherry wood floors and a lot of light coming in from all of the windows, so, absolutely every crumb in that kitchen shows. It bugs me to no end. That sun has no mercy. It seems as though that is all I see and with 5 kids home all summer constantly walking through the kitchen and grabbing a couple of chips here....some crackers there.....ugghhh!!
So, I enjoy the sun and clean my kitchen twice as much...

Julie, I'm glad to know that you will enjoy the sunsets with your family during the Summer months but I can totally understand about seeing crumbs on your wood floors. Hopefully, your dog sees a lot of the food droppings and helps you out with the clean-up.
