Jenna has been on the injured list since November. Her IT Band, which extends from her knee up to her hip has caused her months of problems. She has been swimming up to 100 minutes a day instead of running and trying every couple days to get up to speed by running a little at a time. It seems like she takes one step forward and then 2 back. She has been seeing the trainer, going through rehab and doing everything right, to no avail!
She saw the Dr. today and found out her hip is out of alignment. They gave her orthotics and some topical cream for the inflamation. It has gotten itself pretty bad and knotted up in there! We knew they would want to try steroid shots, but decided against that. We have known for a long time that she is an over-pronator and subsequently needs a good Stability shoe. She has pretty much worn the same running shoes for 4 years, but can only get certain ones through the University. The ones she has been wearing since the fall are not a Stability shoe, and she is probably going to argue with me when she reads this, but probably likes them better because they are more "cushioned" and less "supportive". I am going to order her old stand-bys for her.
So anyway, she was talking to Lauren a few minutes ago. She already ran 40 minutes today. She also swam for 70 minutes and probably had to "lift" today too. Well, she feels like getting on the elliptical!!! Where does she get this ambition and devotion from?? I don't know how she does it! Anyway, we are proud of you, Jenna! Keep up the hard work...it will pay off!
She did not get to run Indoor track and will probably not be running Outdoor either. I guess the focus is back to Cross Country. (6 months away!) I know she is disapointed, but at least she gets to come home for Easter, instead of traveling to Tennessee.
Meanwhile, we are running here in Minster. We have 5 track meets in 10 days. The weather has cooperated so far, but Friday night doesn't look good. 45 degrees and rain is not my idea of fun. I know, I know, I'm just sitting in the stands with my parka and gloves and umbrella. Maybe Basketball doesn't sound too bad for Saturday morning?
