This Week in Sports

I know, I know it's been awhile. I actually have missed posting, but sometimes things just get in the way. It was a pretty hectic week. We had quite a bit of homework and tests and track meets have started.

They are a sharp contrast to Cross Country Meets in many ways. Even though CC season ends in November, the majority of the races are very warm. I traditionally do not look forward to fall only because of what season comes next, but I so look forward to CC season and getting up every Saturday in late August through October to watch the girls run, but Track season is just different. It may have said 55 degrees yesterday on the thermometer, but I was sitting in that stadium with a winter coat, blanket, gloves and a hat and it was still chilly! The other big difference between Track and CC is the time. Now if I only watch one race at a CC meet, (which really isn't practical), it is a 20 minute or so commitment. Now we have had at least 2 girls running for quite a while now, so sometimes thes meets are spread out and we may have to wait an hour in between the high school and Jr. high races, but Track is a full, day long commitment. Yesterday, the first race was the 4x 800 meter relay and it began at 9 a.m. The last race concluded at 3:30. Wow! Now, many times there are just other commitments that make it impractical to stay for the entire meet. An athlete is permitted to run or compete in 4 events, but since the Fausey's are pretty much distance girls, they usually run only 1-2 events. Yesterday, Lauren ran the mile and the 2 mile. Of course, these two events are not close to each other, so I was able to catch up on the "new kids" and the talent that we have this year. We won! And we have another meet Monday, Tuesday and Friday this week.

Enough on sports? Well, maybe not. We are again back to Basketball next weekend. Natalie has a tournament in Sidney. I think the boys actually have a week off! Hmm...maybe I shouldn't speak too soon. Are those baseball diamonds dry enough?
