Another weekend gone. Well, almost....the sun is just getting ready to make it's way full bear into our family room, where it will be shining brightly tonight until sunset. It is beautiful and calming...something I need desperately tonight.
It sure is nice having these long days. I am a morning person, so when the sun comes up, I'm up too. That's pretty early right about this time of year. I think I saw light at 5:40 this morning. I shoved my extra pillow over my head and begged myself for one more hour....not! I had to get up anyway to get to 8 o'clock mass so I could take Natalie to her last AAU BB tournament of the year. They won both games yesterday and then also won this morning, which put them in the championship game. Lauren drove along, so we had some good conversations, but I was not prepared for what happened in that last game. It is a very long story, but I will try to be brief. (I know, I'm not very good at that!)
Our team is made up of 2 Minster girls, 2 Russia girls, 2 Anna girls, one from New Bremen and one from Wapak. A really good group of girls, both on and off the court. We went up against a team from Cleveland made up of girls from Division 1 and 2 schools. We watched them beat a team to get to the finals and wow, they looked good. We would need our best game. Well, we were on and the score was 28-5 at half. We played absolutely awesome and we were hitting our shots and they were not having a good game! They must not lose often, because those girls started to play dirty and pretty rough. In some of these tournaments, you get some refs that really "let them play".
Well, I am not a quiet spectator. Since we had very few parents at this game, I was cheering them on. Pretty much "rah rah", "good job, blue." On two ocassions I asked, "what about that foul, ref?", like many people do at BB games. Well, one Mom from the other team came up to me at the end of the game and absolutely ripped me out because...I don't really know why(?).....I could not believe her words and actions to me....I tried to ignore her, but she moved right behind me and even when the final buzzer went off and I clapped and said, "Good Job girls!" she starting ripping even more...
Their coach thought the officials were awful (?) Which, in my opinion, they were, but it was because they ignored their teams shoving and reaching and slamming into our girls. It was all backwards! I was absolutely shaking, I was so upset. Their coach took the girls and their parents, turned down their runner-up trophy's and the whole group walked out the back door, within 30 seconds of the game being over. I am still in shock. These girls sure aren't learning anything about basketball or life, if their parents are condoning their behavior and actually acting worse than the kids themselves.
What a lesson to be learned. My eyes have definitely been opened to some interesting and upsetting situations we've witnessed this year. The other was how a 6th grade coach from a neighboring town talked to and treated 11 year old boys. Absolutely unacceptable. Needless to say, all our kids' coaches have been wonderful.
Well, that took a lot out of me today....
I'm noticing now, with that sunlight streaming in, how dirty my back windows are....(again!)....the best time to clean them is when I can see that glare and the dirt! Time to go wash windows....
Enjoy the beautiful evening....

Well congrats to the girls and coach for their fine perfomance on and off the court. Kuddos to you too for ignoring the "mom"(not sure she was a good example of one). I've seen lots of parents(yes even "moms") go at it after soccer games and it's not pretty. Another life lesson for your girls. What have we become?!
