What Makes a Dad?
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad.
Lauren, Jenna and I had a nice visit to Toledo on Wednesday & Thursday. Jenna spent the night with a friend/teammate and Lauren and I spent the night in the dorm. We got started very early Thursday morning and attended classes and sessions until 5 p.m. It is a lot of information...and I even have one there already. Lauren has her classes all figured out and the timing is actually pretty good! She doesn't have class until 9:30 and she is done by 2 every day. That's sounds pretty good, but actually when you count her 1 1/2 hours of cross-training time 3 times a week at 6:30 a.m. and practice every day including Saturdays from 2:30 until 5, she basically studies, sleeps and runs....
We had a few minutes on Wednesday when we arrived in Toledo and I drove them by their first house on Beaufort Street, and our first church where they all were baptized. Jenna remembered a little, but Lauren couldn't remember the school at all. (She left that school when she was in 1st grade.) Our first house still had the brick sidewalk that my Dad put in in 1990. Wow. It was strange. We did not drive by our last home in Toledo, but as we were close, I realized that it was 15 years to the day when we moved in....and then 3 days later found out we were pregnant with Natalie.
Enough reminiscing. Back at home it was swim team, baseball and basketball as normal. We celebrated a friend's birthday Friday night. Happy Belated birthday, Michele! And here it is, Sunday night again....Father's Day. We all kind of went separate ways today. Jenna babysat at 9 a.m., all day. Lauren headed with Sam to Indian Lake with his family on the water for the day, Natalie with friends, Andrew golfing and Jon convinced Dad to take him fishing! Yes, that left me at home by myself! Yippee!! It was only for about an hour, but I found a few of those minutes to read a book on the patio in the sunshine.
We finished the day with ribs and corn on the cob and watermelon. It was impromptu, but even Mom and Dad came and ate with us. Dan and I managed a quick 35 minute bike ride while Jenna and Andrew got in their daily run. Another week starts tomorrow. Schedules are still pretty busy. In addition to the normal scheduling, Natalie has BB camp in Findlay for a couple of days and Andrew has Jr. Golf camp all week.
Well, the kids have something for Dad, so I'm going to join in....
