Scioto Downs here we come....

It is our 7th straight year heading to Scioto Downs in Columbus for the State Cross Country meet.  What a wonderful tradition our small community has to be proud of!

The girls will go to school in the morning, wear matching  "State" shirts, eat lunch together, and then file out of school with the pep band playing and the whole high school cheering them on. They will walk outside and onto a decorated bus while parents and grandparents and friends are snapping pictures as they drive through the parking lot of the middle school where all the kids are lined up along the sidewalk cheering them on. Thy are led to the elementary where the students will also be waving and yelling "good luck."  The firetrucks will then lead them out of town with a parade of beeping cars following behind!

How exciting!!!...(even if it is our seventh time to be able to participate).... it just doesn't get old!

The girls run at 11:05 a.m. Saturday morning.  There are lots of predicitions and state rankings and opinions flying around.  But, based on experience, anything can happen at State.  We have been ranked 1st the entire season, but that does not guarantee a spot on the Podium, or a medal around their neck.

Many people, (in my lowly opinion), take for granted that the Minster girls will "win state".  These girls have been training for this race on Saturday since early June.  They write down everything they eat, count the ounces of water they drink and train 6, sometimes 7 days a week.  They sacrifice Friday night football games and parties with friends, since they always have to be home extra early on Friday nights.  They live to run and not just for a couple of months, but year around!  Yes, this sport means you commit your life and lifestyle to running.  Their coach is exceptional and instills in them back in Junior High a work ethic that speaks of hard work, determination and committment.

We are lucky to have such a wonderful program and Coach in our midst.

Good Luck Natalie, Jessica, Maria, Averie,
Sophia, Samantha, Hannah, Taylor and Morgan.
Good Luck Jessie and Coach Helmstetter.
