(New) Injury Update

So, as if you have been reading for while, I enjoy watching my kids.  Whether it is Baseball, Basketball, Track or my favorite, Cross Country, I enjoy being at their events, cheering them on, and being involved in their activities.  Last Thursday was an exception. Natalie has been fighting with her hips hurting again as she battled during last CC season.  She was still running reasonably well, although not up to her expectations or even last years track times at all.  She was at a small meet in Rockford last Thursday and she ran the 2 mile (if that's what you call it..) Absolutely painful and excrutiating to watch.  Her stride was off, she was hobbling and wobbling and I just wanted to pull her off the track.

I talked with her about her options over the weekend, and then yesterday we spent almost 4 hours at the Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio.  We met with a trainer, had xrays and then met with the Dr, whom we really liked.  He couldn't understand how she could even be running, based on the shape her hips were in.  So, her season is over. I knew that last Thursday night, but we have learned so much between that visit yesterday and then the hour and a half at the Physical Therapist this evening.  After really getting specific and going over her with a "fine tooth comb" again, the PT could not understand how she was running, much less racing or competing!

So, we are on a daily regimen of Advil, icing, and no running at all!  She will now be following her sister's regimine of Cross training and we are on a goal time to be back on track for CC season by June 15th.

As far as the other girls, Jenna has been also going through PT and for the first time in 16 months, feels like she is making real headways.   Lauren is recovering slowly, but surely, from her badly sprained ankle back in March and has just recently started running a few minutes at a time.

I have high hopes that each of them will be rested, healed and ready for a fresh start and be ready to run for Cross Country '10!
